Applied Physics Laboratory
Among the several areas of research conducted in the Applied Physics Laboratory, a main thrust is in the interaction of low-frequency electromagnetic (EM) fields with tissues and cells. Within this thrust are several activities including:
- Detection and imaging of cancer using electromagnetic methods and with and without antibodies
- Controlling cancer cell migration using induced electric fields
- Continuous and non-invasive detection of malaria
- Acceleration of wound healing
- Mitigation of bacterial biofilms
- Measurements of electrical currents in cerebral organoids
- Eddy current microscopy for biomedical applications.
Our laboratory also has over 20 years experience in other areas such as the physics of plasmas and processing of novel materials such as diamond and single-walled carbon nanotubes, and space propulsion. Our research is multi-disciplinary, incorporating plasma physics, materials science and engineering applications.
